Description
“This African Standard provides guidelines aimed at advising medicinal plant producers and collectors on how to improve the safety, efficacy and quality standards of raw materials used in the production and preparation of herbal medicines. This standard also aims to encourage and support the sustainable cultivation and collection of medicinal plants of good quality in ways that respect and support the conservation of medicinal plants and the environment in general. NOTE Due to the huge diversity of medicinal plant species, the different environments in which they are produced and the different resources available to producers, the way in which GACP is implemented can vary enormously. The objective of the GACP guidelines is therefore to present the key underlying principles that apply to all species, environments and producers. Farmers and collectors can then apply these principles to their own situation using the locally available resources.”
