As a manufacturer Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) has services that are of benefit to you.
Standards

Standards are meant as a quality assurance tool. As a manufacturer of products, you can ensure that the products meet requirements of standards. There are many standards addressing different sectors and products. Visit the Standards catalogue and filter by the different sectors and products of interest.

Calibration Services

BOS can help with calibration of testing and measuring instruments that you use in your manufacturing processes. For more information visit the Calibration Services Page

Training Services
BOBS offers training on some of the standards, namely
Testing Services

As a manufacturer you might want to verify a raw material or your finished product against a standard. BOBS has laboratories that offer testing in areas of micro-biology, chemistry, textiles, mechanical, civil engineering, and electrical engineering. This is a way for you to have assurance on the quality of your raw material as well as your finished products. To get more information visit the Testing Services page.

Certification Services

Products can be certified against a Standard. This is a way for you to have assurance on the safety and quality of the products that you manufacture. Your certified products will then bear the Standards Mark for visibility by consumers of your products. To get more information on this service visit the Certification Services page

Regulation of Compulsory Standards

Some products in Botswana are regulated by law. This means that these products must conform to the compulsory standards by law. These standards affect some of the products in the market, and so are an assurance of their safety. If want to manufacture any of the regulated products there is need for you to ensure that they conform. Before manufacturing in any product check if the product is regulated by visiting the Regulated Products page

Regulation of Measuring & Weighing Instruments for Trade

Any manufacturer who will be selling their products by using measuring and weighing instruments needs to ensure that they measure or weigh properly. By law these instruments must be annually verified by BOBS for correctness. There are many weighing and measuring instruments and not all are allowed for use in Botswana. To ensure you acquire the right instrument contact BOBS for those that are permitted visit the Permitted Instruments page. BOBS will from time to time also run inspections of pre-packaged goods.

Information Centre

The BOBS Information Centre situated at the Head Office in Gaborone is an international reference point for information about standards, technical regulations, and certification cervices in Botswana. IMPARTIALITY AND CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT
The Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) understands the importance of impartiality and confidentiality in carrying out its management system certification activities. BOBS management is committed to gaining and maintaining the reputation, credibility and ultimately, confidence of its stakeholders in rendering its certification services. Additionally, BOBS strives to continuously manage foreseen potential conflicts of duty and interest and ensures objectivity of its activities under the management system certification. To achieve the above, BOBS shall identify, analyse, record and manage potential conflict of duty and interest to ensure that certification services are not provided within relationships that have been identified to pose an unacceptable threat to impartiality. An Impartiality Committee shall periodically review activities of the certification function to verify commitment to credibility and fairness. The Committee shall further assist in the development of policies relating to impartiality of providing certification activities. BOBS is committed to maintaining in strict confidence all information accessed while rendering the certification services and shall ensure that such information is not divulged to third parties without the Client’s written consent unless if required by law.
