Trade Metrology Unit
Regulation of measuring & weighing instruments for trade
Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) through the Trade Metrology Unit plays an important role of enforcing the Weights and Measures Act Chapter 43:06. It attempts to enhance consumer confidence in the marketplace, enable businesses to compete fairly at home and abroad, and to strengthen Botswana’s economy. This is carried out through inspections and verification of weighing and measuring instruments used for trade.
BOBS periodically verifies commercial weighing and measuring instruments to achieve, inter alia, the following objectives;
Maintain accurate and uniform weights and measures standards through traceability from international to commercial standards.
Curtail importation of substandard weighing and measuring instruments in the country.
Minimise the use of weighing and measuring instruments that do not conform to approved designs or meet the required.
Provide consumer protection.
